ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Between word and image.

Alexandru Vlad is an author, teacher and filmmaker from Cluj-Napoca.

PhD in Cinematography and Media, he explores memory, childhood, light and human fragility through his books, films and videopoems.

His published work includes the poetry collections "The Echo of the Sea" and "The Last Fragments", as well as the novel "Where the Lights Go".

Persistența memoriei

Persistența memoriei (The Persistence of Memory) is an autobiographical film built from fragments of memories, inner states and images of the past. Through poetic editing and glitch effects, the film explores the instability of memory, the loss of recollections and the way lived experiences transform, overlap or disappear over time. The ballerina becomes a symbol of life's rhythm, the flow of time and the continuous movement between past and present. The author's appearances in different roles reflect inner states and characters born from personal moments captured on film. An intimate journey about memory, identity and the fragility of the experiences we try to hold on to.

Sunetul Bucovinei

A short documentary about the life and legacy of Ciprian Porumbescu, one of Romania's most beloved composers. The film traces Porumbescu's contribution to Romanian cultural heritage and the enduring influence his music continues to exert on generations today — a portrait of an artist whose work outlived his short life and became part of the national memory.

EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

Arca

A videopoem produced with students, in the role of coordinating teacher, based on the poem "Arca" (The Ark) by Ion Barbu. The project is part of the film education programme at the Children's Palace in Cluj-Napoca, where students learn to translate literary imagery into moving image.
