ROMANIAN VIDEOPOEMS

A videopoem is not an illustrated poem, nor a film with a voice-over. It is a form in which text and image are written together: sometimes the shot continues the line, sometimes it contradicts it, and meaning emerges precisely from that gap.

For someone who both writes and films, the form is a natural fit. Alexandru Vlad has worked in it for several years, with the same themes as the books — memory, childhood, places emptying out — but with means that do not exist on the page: real duration, ambient sound, the cut.

The videopoems are published on this site and on the YouTube channel. They are best watched one after another, in the order they were made.
